Margie W. Porter, 92, of Gulf Breeze, Fl, transitioned gloriously into the arms of Jesus, December 12, 2019 in her home. Margie was born in Atmore, Alabama to the late Roy and Pearl Caylor. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ernest Porter, her beloved son Jimmy, her sister Lucille Steadham, and brother Billy Caylor. Margie is survived by a brother, Johnny Caylor of Wisconsin, her two devoted daughters, Janice (Carter) West of Niceville, and Patti (Dennis) Fitch of Gulf Breeze, who were with her when she passed. She is also survived by five granddaughters, Holly (Rich) Lange of Niceville, Lindsay Bass, Molli Bass, Natalie Bass, and Hayley Bass all of Pensacola ; four great- grandchildren, Brandon Lange of Gainesville, Summer Lange, Tallahassee, Hunter Bass, and Jace Pulido of Pensacola.
Margie loved God, her family, and her country. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze, and active in the Merry Maker choir until dialysis prevented her from attending. Margie was a former secretary of Gulf Breeze Middle school, and the first secretary of the newly built Oriole Beach Elementary until her retirement in 1990. Margie was a Navy wife who traveled wherever her husband was stationed. She never met a stranger, and would always find a church home where she would actively become involved. Her passion was children. She loved teaching 5 year olds in Sunday School which she did for over 40 years.
When in 1972, her 10 year old son, Jimmy, died suddenly, Margie’s faith was tested but never failed. She had trust in God that one day she would see him again. She longed for him for 47 years, and now along with her husband, they are all together .
Family was everything to her. Her unconditional love was demonstrated in many ways. She enjoyed sending cards and notes of love, scriptures, and encouragement to friends and family. We will cherish her words. She delighted in spending time with her daughters, especially on outings for lunch at her favorite place, Jerry’s Drive In. She was Grandmother to 5 granddaughters who she loved immensely, and with whom she cherished a special relationship with each one. When her great grandchildren Brandon and Summer came along, she was thrilled to have “babies” once again. To her last 2 great grandsons Hunter and Jace, she was known as Ta Ta and relished every moment they spent together. Her passing leaves a great void in her family’s heart, but praise God we know that one day we will see her again.
