Larry R. Bridwell, 79, of Gulf Breeze, Florida passed away in his home on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
Larry was born November 3, 1939 in Lafayette, Indiana, son of the late Lawrence Bridwell and Lola Griffin. He married Helga Pokluda on July 21, 1960 in Heidelberg, Germany. She survives.
Larry was raised on a small farm in Youngs Chapel area where he went to grade school and was a member of Youngs Chapel Christian Church. He attended Crawfordsville High School and graduated in 1958. He was proud to serve in the Army and was sent to Heidelberg, Germany where he was a member of the 529th Color Guard from 1958 - 1961. He was promoted to sergeant before his service was finished. During that time is when he met Helga and they were married.
After coming back to the states in 1961, he was employed by R.R. Donnelley and served as an apprentice in building maintenance and boiler room. After 32 years with this employer, he retired and moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida. He spent a lot of time helping neighbors and friends with home projects. His favorite pastime was working in the garage with his woodworking skills where many have enjoyed his creations. He was a lifetime member of the Elks.
Surviving, along with his lifelong bride Helga are many family members and special friends. Preceding him in death were his grandparents Noah and Hallie Bridwell who raised him and his sister on the farm.
His final resting place will be at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. A small Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society and/or Diabetes Association.
