Glen Schroeder lost his fight with cancer on March 31st with his wife of sixty plus years by his side. Glenn, or "Bud" as he was better known by those who knew him, is survived by his wife Marietta, two daughters, Cheryl (Jack) Wilder and Kristin (Patrick) Ward, and five beautiful grandchildren, Brandon, Blake, Brittany Wilder, Ethan and Gabriel Ward. Bud and Marietta, childhood sweethearts, grew up in Oregon Illinois a small mid western town in northern Illinois near the Wisconsin state line. Leaving their small part time cattle farm behind they moved to Pensacola Florida with their two young daughters in the late Seventies to open an ice cream parlor. That first store evolved into the "Creamery Café", a business Bud and Marietta with their two daughters would own and operate for more than thirty years. As a husband and wife team, Bud was usually in the kitchen creating or preparing the many popular comfort food items on their menu, Marietta, with her bubbly personality would be at the cash register chatting with their many old and new customers. The Creamery survived more than seven hurricanes to come thru or near Pensacola, beginning with hurricane Frederick during their first year in business to hurricanes Ivan in 2004 and Dennis in 2005. Ivan destroyed their home on Pensacola Beach and severely damaged their restaurant across the bay in Gulf Breeze. The wind and drenching rains from Dennis the following year just added to the misery. In 2007 Marietta was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer. That seemed to be the proverbial straw on the camels back. Sadly, the husband and wife team closed The Creamery Café in the fall of 2007. They then moved to Tallahassee, to be near their daughter, Cheryl and her family. Bud worked in the Seafood Department of Publix for seven years. Bud was an avid cyclist for many years and enjoyed riding long distance rides.
Bud served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Bud was a lifelong Lutheran and a present member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Tallahassee, FL
In addition to his immediate family, Bud was also survived by many other family members including Ronald (Geannie) Schroeder, Marilyn Gustafson, Carolyn Only and nieces and nephews.
