Dominick Fromularo

Dominick Fromularo of Gulf Breeze FL passed away on 21 December 2014 at his home in The Villas. He was born in New York City on 12 January 1923 to Gerardo and Giovanna Fromularo who emigrated from Italy. He was one of 14 siblings and he joined the Army in September 1940 and served in the infantry as an infantry squad leader with the 7th Infantry. His combat tours were in the Aleutian Battles of the North Pacific for two years. The Aleutian Island Campaign ended in August 1944 and it marked the first theatre wide victory for the Allies and ended Japan's only campaign in the Western Hemisphere. Dominick was then sent to combat operations with the 71st Infantry in France and Germany/Rhineland through 1945 after which time he separated from active service and then served in the National Guard and was an active member of the 7th Regiment Armory in NYC. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Distinguished Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, French Liberation Medal as well as Theater of War Medals and Good Conduct Medal. He went on the "Honor Flight" in 2010 and his story about his upbringing and combat time is chronicled in The Navarre Press on Thursday 25 December, 2010. Dominick then began a career in the US Post Office that lasted from 1946 through 1982 rising to the position of Safety Specialist in the NYC Postal System. After retiring from the Post Office he spent his time between homes in Ventnor, NJ and Cocoa, FL before settling in Gulf Breeze. Friends and family knew Dominick as an energetic and cheerful morning person who enjoyed long walks on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, often returning with a bag of pastries for Frances, his night-owl second wife. His other interests included travel, politics, visiting with family, and attending the events of his grandchildren. As a young man he was a boxing enthusiast and an Army boxing champion, and he was an active member of the NY Republican Club for many years. He had a lifelong enjoyment of sports and enjoyed football and of course, the NY Yankees. He is survived by Frances, to whom he was married for 49 years; daughters Mary King and Joanne Miller (Charles); son John Fromularo; step-son John Corrigan (Donna); seven grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 12 to 12:30 PM at Rose Lawn Funeral Home of Gulf Breeze with Funeral Services at 12:30 on Monday December 29, 2014. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM in Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS, Pensacola. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer's Disease Research, www.brightfocus.org/adrdonate, are appreciated.
