William (Bill) Law passed away peacefully at home from natural causes May 15, 2018.
Bill was born in Colony, New York and preceded in death by his beloved wife Harriett Ethel Law, his parents, William H. Law, Sr., Dorothy Lant Law, siblings, Dorothy Jacqueline Law, Faith Sheila Law Catallo, Thomas James Law, Sons: Richard D Law, and William H. Law III.
Bill is survived by his daughter Robin Elizabeth Law Hukill (Timothy), Brother in law, Wally Catello, his first wife, mother of his children, Georgia (Betty) Law Fortner, stepson Chuck Ward, (Vickie) and stepdaughter Suzy Ward Cheney, grandchildren, Candice, Devin, Elizabeth and Carly, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill played high school football, college football and played for the U. S. Navy, 1949-1953. He was recruited by the Chicago Bears Football team but chose instead to enroll in the University of Maine for a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Management, and then received a master's degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Public Administration.
Bill served as Chief Administrator in Irvington and Franklin Township, New Jersey, Guttenberg, Iowa, and Woodstock, Illinois. Bill then came to Pensacola serving as City Manager from 1965-1971. Bill was Chief Executive Officer in Boca Raton, FL, Special Assistant then General Services Administrator in Miami, FL, Interim City Manager in Delray Beach, FL, Deputy City Manager in Hollywood, FL and Director of General Service in Sarasota, FL. After Bill's retirement from public administration in the early 90's, Bill settled in Gulf Breeze, FL.
Bill was a long-time member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Pensacola, then St. Francis of Assisi after relocating to Gulf Breeze. Bill was the youngest man to become a Mason in 1946, he loved to play golf, served as President of his Home Owners Association as well as serving as the Treasurer for St. Francis of Assisi for several years.
Bill will be interred at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors June 1, 2018 at 9:30 am. All those who wish to join the procession to Barrancas, please be at Rose Lawn Funeral Home by 8:45 am June 1st. A service at St. Francis of Assisi in Gulf Breeze will take place at 1 pm.
