William Huffman

July 1, 1918 — December 9, 2013

William Ward Huffman died December 9, 2013, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Gulf Breeze. He was born July 1, 1918, in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thomas Huffman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Amelita Linthicum Huffman. He leaves behind his daughters and their husbands, Lita and Tom Brown of Gulf Breeze and Felicia and John Merritt of Wilmington, North Carolina, and a son Bill and Marilyn Huffman of Richmond, Virginia. He also leaves behind a special nephew, Joe Spruill, and his wife, Cora Sue, of Tappahannock, Virginia. He loved his family. He had nine loving grandchildren: Tad Brown and his wife, Sage, of Pensacola, Alex Brown and his wife, Nancy, of San Antonio, Texas, Will Brown of Savannah, Georgia, David Brown of Jacksonville, Billy Huffman and his wife, Molly, and Tommy Huffman and his wife, Braden, of Richmond, Virginia, John Merritt, Jr and his wife, Elizabeth, and Amie Cofini and her husband, Ari, of Raleigh, North Carolina and Spencer Merritt and his wife, Kat, of Washington, DC. There are also ten great grandchildren, Thomas Brown, Alex Jr and Maddie Brown, Ruthie and Anne Campbell Huffman, Harper and Maggie Huffman, Jack and George Merritt, and Merritt Cofini. The family appreciates his loving caregiver, Shirley Ann Haynes, of Pensacola. Bill Huffman was a graduate of the United States Navel Academy Class of 1939 and served in the United States Navy for 20 years. He was a Master Gardener and enjoyed golf, woodworking and genealogy. A memorial service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Gulf Breeze at 3:00 pm Friday, December 13, 2013. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Francis Church.
