William Gilbert

William D "Bill" Gilbert age 63 of Gulf Breeze, Florida died Monday, November 10, 2008 after an extended illness. Bill was born August 10, 1945 in Beeville, Texas to Thomas E and Jamie Gilbert. He graduated from Escambia High School in 1963 and The University of West Florida with a Masters Degree in Political Science. William retired after 20 years service in the U S Air Force and was a Vietnam Vet. He was an instructor at the Hurlburt Field NCO Leadership School and played in the Interservice Softball Championship. Bill's favorite hobby was fishing, fishing and more fishing in Canada, at various times of the year. Bill served as both the Public Information Officer and the Director of Public Works for Santa Rosa County. Bill was preceded in death by his father Thomas E Gilbert, mother Jamie Gilbert, and a brother Thomas Gilbert. Survivors include his wife Mary Gilbert, his brother-in-law and wife Don & Tanna Kendrick, his sister-in-law Suzy Gilbert, his niece Sarah Whitman, his great nephews Tommy & Noah Whitman along with numerous other relatives and friends. A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze. A procession will depart from Rose Lawn Funeral Home at 12:30 PM Thursday, November 13, 2008, to arrive at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. Services will be conducted there at 1:15 with full Military Honors. The family would like to thank Diane for her moral and spiritual support.
