Vivian passed away peacefully at her residence at The Blake in Gulf Breeze on December 19, 2009. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years and the love of her life, Bobby Laird, who died in February of 2007. Born in 1921 in Montana, Vivian was the daughter of Finnish emigrants, Sanfred and Selma Tastula, who came to this country in the early 1920s. She was the youngest of four children, Laura, Unto and Regina, all of whom predeceased her, and was the only member of herimmediate family to be born in the US. Married in 1941, together she and Bobby worked hard and traveled extensively due to his military career, calling many places home, eventually retiring and settling in Gulf Breeze. A lover of sports, Vivian was an accomplished seamstress and expressed her many artistic talents with her beautiful needlework. Vivian leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Ott, of Charleston, SC, a daughter Daphne Neill of Milton, Fla., and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be at Rose Lawn Funeral Home from 9:00 to 9:30 AM with funeral service to follow at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, December 23rd. Private burial at Barrancas National Cemetary at a later time. The family wishes to thank the staff at Emerald Coast Hospice, in particular Sharon and Tiffany, and the wonderful staff at The Blake, who all showed compassion and tenderness during the months of her residence and care-giving, and especially during her final moments. We are very greatful to all of you. She maintained her sunny disposition even at the end. We love you and will miss you mom. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Vivian Laird to Emerald Coast Hospice or The American Heart Association.
