Sylvia Street, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016, of complications from Alzheimer’s dementia, while residing at Bay Breeze Senior Living and Rehabilatation Center in Gulf Breeze. Sylvia, or Syl, as almost everyone called her, was born in Satsuma, Alabama, on March 6, 1941. She lived in Prichard, Alabama during her early years and graduated from Vigor High School in Prichard in 1959. While in high school, Syl met her future husband, Cliff, and they were married in July, 1961. Syl was a Navy wife for 27 years, and she and Cliff raised two fine boys. Following Cliff’s retirement from the Navy in 1988, the two of them settled in Gulf Breeze. Syl was an outstanding realtor, successfully selling residential homes in the area for over fifteen years. In addition, she was an avid tennis player, fantastic cook and enthusiastic Crimson Tide football fan. Syl was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and was loved by all who knew her. Syl was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Agnes Anderson, sister, Perry Shewmake and Perry’s husband, Hollis. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Cliff, sons, Mark (Terry) Street of Atlanta, Georgia and Shane (Erin) Street of Hoover, Alabama, brother, Don (Laura) Anderson of Deer Park, Texas, granddaughter Ashley (Terry) Street West of Jasper, Georgia, grandson Nate Street of Hoover, Alabama, brother-in-law Craig (Robin) Street of Mobile, Alabama, other relatives and numerous friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15, 2016, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, Florida, with services in the funeral home chapel immediately thereafter at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at Barrancas National Cemetery, at NAS Pensacola at 11:45 AM. The family would like to thank the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice, especially nurse Rhonda and aide Maricia, for their wonderful care during the latter stages of Syl’s disease. The family also thanks the staff and all the caregivers at Bay Breeze Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center, especially Enjalica, Sue and Alanna, for helping to make Syl’s last months and days as comfortable and loving as possible. Pallbearers will be Mark Street, Shane Street, Craig Street and Scott Shewmake.
