Steven Matthew Rolfes, MD, 48, passed away at his home in Gulf Breeze (Pensacola) Florida on July 16, 2013 after a 15 month battle with Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer). Steve was preceded in death by his mother Sharon Carrelli Rolfes of Cincinnati and Montgomery, Alabama. He is survived by his father, George and step-mother Mary Blessing Schwartz of Cincinnati; his brother Michael (Ave) and nephews Matthew and Michael, and niece Maria of Ft. Pierce, Florida; his sister Laura Ingram (Richard) and nieces Rachel and Hannah of Montgomery, Alabama. He is a step-brother to Mary Jo Stoehr and Beth Kunze of Cincinnati and Mark Schwartz of Charlotte, North Carolina. Steve is a graduate of the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. He served his country as a Navy Flight Surgeon flying with Naval Squadron VAQ33 at Key West, Florida. Steve completed his residency in Anesthesiology at UAB and was a practicing Anesthesiologist at Pensacola and Gulf Breeze Baptist Hospitals. He was an avid SCUBA diver and world traveler. Visitation will be on Friday, July 26th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM, and will include a Memorial Service at 7:30 PM at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, Florida 32563.
