Jesus finished preparing Sara's room and called her to her heavenly home Sunday, April 15th at 4:15 pm. She was surrounded by family and friends at home after a spirited 19 year battle against breast then liver cancer.
Born in Dothan, AL to Henry and Helen (Smith) Loftin Oct 28, 1941, her family moved to Pensacola in 1954. She graduated from Escambia High (Go Rebels) in the class of 1960 then attended business school in Pensacola. She worked many years at Hamrick Htg & A/C. Sara first met her husband on the golf course and they married Nov. 22, 1975.
Sara was a dedicated member of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church for over 37 years serving on various committees, helping with MYF and the notorious youth choir tours. When she was no longer needed to haul youth in her minivan she became the Lamp Store Lady working at Galleria Lamps & Shades. Sara was an enthusiastic friend to all she met and used her phone to stay close to both family and friends.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and son (still at birth). She is survived by her husband, Tom, daughter Stephanie (Matt) Brown of Mobile, beloved grandchildren, Evan and Sara Beth, brother James (Linda) Loftin of Pace, FL, sisters-in law, Carol (Doug) Baily of Macomb, IL, Marilyn (Bob) Hurt of Dakota, MN, and Amy (Steve) Ruebush of Blandinsville, IL, cousin, Dickey Smith and many special nieces, nephews, their spouses and offspring.
A special thanks to the medical staff at Sacred Heart Hospital, Emerald Coast Hospice, family, and friends for their love, prayers, and support.
Visitation will be Friday, April 20th from 5:00-8:00 pm in the sanctuary at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. Memorial service will be held at 1:30pm, Saturday, April 21st at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to GBUMC, 75 Fairpoint Dr., Gulf Breeze, FL 32563 to further the work of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.
