Robert Albers Whitmire (Bob) died suddenly in his Gulf Breeze home on December 9, 2014 at age 62. Bob was born April 26, 1952 in Louisville, MS. He is the son of V.C. Whitmire, deceased. He grew up as a military son and attended many different schools. He joined the U.S. marines in 1970 and served in Japan during the Vietnam War. After completing his service in 1974, he moved back to Gulf Breeze to stay. He worked with computers and ran his own company, Computer Engineering Services. He has always enjoyed nature, politics, racquetball, technology and especially rescue dogs. Through the years, he cared for Scratch, Mao, Bill and Shorty. Bob loved the beach, nature, and photography. He had a lifelong love of art, shown through his paintings and photographs. He was proud of his stamp collection. His family knew him as a chess player with a dry wit, and a passion for the little guy. He'd give you the shirt of his back, share a meal, or give you a lift or a listening ear. He volunteered for the Santa Rosa Democratic Party, where he was a part of the Executive committee. Surviving, are his loving mother, Jean (Albers) Whitmire, his brothers, David Whitmire and wife Cecelia, nieces Kathryn and Elaine of Dallas, TX; Mark Whitmire and wife Melissa of Baltimore, MD, nieces Amelia and Louisa of Fairhope, AL; James Whitmire and wife Stacey, nephews Michael, Wesley, and Robert of Navarre, FL; and sister Jenny Clark of Tampa, FL and her husband Jim of Huntsville, AL, nieces Anne Harris of Atlanta, GA and Sarah Clark of Richmond, VA. And his little buddy, Shorty, his little Pomeranian. A visitation will be held at Rose Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery at 2942 Gulf Breeze Pkwy in Gulf Breeze at 3 PM on December 19, 2014 with a memorial service to follow at 3:30 PM. Robert will be inurned at Fort Barrancas National Cemetery at a future date. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
