Robert Smith

October 29, 1933 — February 3, 2024

Robert Everett Smith, passed away on February 3, 2024, in Gulf Breeze, Florida, at the age of 90.   He was born in Greensboro, AL and graduated from Greensboro High School.

After graduating high school, Robert entered the Air Force in July 1952, and served until June 1960, as an aircraft mechanic serving stateside. Soon after his military service, Robert started his career with Gulf States Paper Company, as a millwright and retired after 35 years.

Robert’s good friend, Clyde Cruise introduced Robert to his cousin, Annie Jo Sherbett (“Jo”).  Robert and Jo were married in 1955, and later had two children.

Robert and his family lived in Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. After retirement, Robert and Jo moved back to Florida from Alabama, where they lived out their remaining years.

Always on the go, Robert loved to travel, making several trips to distant places across the United States. He really enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting, but boating and water skiing were his favorite outdoor activities. He also had a nice garden, producing plenty of home-grown vegetables, for family and friends.  In the fall each year, Robert had a big passion for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Football was his game.  Robert was a man of faith and didn’t hesitate to share that faith with others.

Funeral services will be at 1 pm Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Rose Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Gary Thompson officiating.  Burial with honors will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery with Rose Lawn Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends from noon until service time.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
