Robert Thomas Shirah, age 85, of Gulf Breeze, Florida was called to be with the Lord on Friday, November 4, 2011. He was born on February 2, 1926 to the late Achie and Ruby Shirah in Geneva, Alabama. Robert went on to serve in the United States Army in World War II and Korea. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star in World War II, as well as the Silver Star and Purple Heart in Korea. He is preceded in death by his parents, Achie, and Ruby Shirah and brothers, Albert, Lambert, Ernest and Bill Shirah. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edna Shirah and daughters Esther Sanders, Dorothy (Paul) Lore, as well as his sister Ann (Hut) Jones and brothers Ben (Barbara) Shirah and Don Shirah. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer (Kerry) Rogers, Paul (Heather) Lore, Kimberly (Eric) Knudsen, Billy (Kristin) Wheeler and Allison Sanders; six great grandchildren, Caitlin, Emily, Erika, Caleb, Elijah and Makenna. Visitation will be held at Rose Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 12:00-2:00 PM, followed by graveside service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, Florida 32504 in gratitude for their gracious service.
