Richard John Laucella was a lifelong Navy man. Born on December 2, 1941 in Flushing, New York he dropped out of school and at the age of 17 enlisted in the Navy. During his career he served on seven ships, including one during the Cuban Missile Crisis blockade, another on a hospital ship during Vietnam. The USS Lexington was his final sea duty. He retired after 30 years with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4, earning his college degree along the way. Always in love with cars, he spent his retired years as the owner of a used car dealership, Warrant Motor Cars. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 378 and served on several committees, including chairman of the committee for Boys State. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Helen, son Stephen, daughter Catharine Pyles (her husband Stephen), and grandsons Easton and Hudson. Visitation will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Gulf Breeze at 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 14, 2016. The service will begin at 3:30, followed by a reception in the parish hall.
