Rex Lawayne Burt Jr. 61, a long time resident of Gulf Breeze, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023 in the home he built for his family.
Known by most simply as Rex, he was born on August 6, 1961 in Albertville, Alabama. He grew up, the eldest of four, in Pensacola, Florida. A very loving, caring, and proud man, Rex employed a way of thinking that could both endear and infuriate. Often working when the family wanted him to rest and stopping our efforts with “Rex's Rules" and “I ain’t got time for that!". He believed in hardwork and fairness which he employed with all he encountered from his job at Gulf Winds Credit Union to umpiring rookie ball for the GBSA. Always putting others needs before his own, Rex believed in providing and ensuring everyone around him was taken care of in every way possible. A devoted family man, Rex is survived by his wife of forty years, Cheryl Chisenhall Burt; His son Randall and his wife Jeannie; His daughter Laura and her husband Matt; his four beautiful granddaughters, his “Gooberdawg” grandson, and his precious great-granddaughter E-Bee. Rex enjoyed golfing, camping, grilling, and traveling with his wife and family. He loved watching golf, tennis, the Little League World Series, and whatever other sports were on but held nothing above Alabama Football and the New Orleans Saints. He never let a chance slide to holler out Roll Tide or Who Dat! His impressive collection of Alabama items is rivaled only by his hat collection and possibly golf equipment or power tools. Rex loved his family like no other and he enjoyed being surrounded by them and good friends whenever he got the chance.
