Rebecca Murray Gundrum, 69, of Gulf Breeze marched triumphantly into heaven the morning of 27 November 2021.
Born in Deadwood, South Dakota on Christmas Eve 1951 (and referred to as her Christmas Angel by her mother) she grew up to be a master sailor, accomplished equestrian, beauty queen, world traveler, lover of animals and servant of God.
She will not be remembered for any of these accomplishments, but by her heart. Simply put, she exhibited the best of humanity through her warm-hearted caring. Not only of me and you, family and friends, but those she hadn’t met yet. The poor, the homeless, the children, the hurting and their animals.
She attended Ventura College paying her way by modeling and working in the Veterans Assistance Office. Her chosen career path was with animals, working as a Veterinarian Technician for many years giving not only health care but love too. Recreational time was spent with hours in the saddle of her favorite horse “Benny Boy” followed by her pack of loving dogs.
Rebecca managed to make time to travel extensively. From Russia to Grenada, from Czechoslovakia to Japan she absorbed the fabric of the world spreading kindness, caring and her smile as she went.
After retiring she, her husband and her dog (of course) set sail in a 41 foot sloop for 3 years of cruising the Florida coast and the Caribbean as far south as Grenada. Having one of the few boats with an actual oven she would make blueberry muffins for her husband to deliver by dingy to others in the anchorage.
In the wake of the boating life followed a few more years of traveling and busy life, finally settling in Gulf Breeze with her husband, dog, and 2 cats.
On August 12, 2007 Rebecca accepted Christ into her life, was baptized and joined the United Methodist Church where she worshipped and served.
She is survived by her eternally grateful husband, Steve; younger brother, James and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for this wonderful person will be held at 2:00pm Sunday 19 December at the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, 75 Fairpoint Drive, Gulf Breeze, FL with a reception immediately afterwards. Burial to follow on 20 December at11:00am in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola NAS.
