Raymond Shane

Raymond Robert Shane, 80, of Gulf Breeze, FL, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Sunday, December 01, 2024, in Pensacola, FL. 

Raymond was born on February 08, 1944, in Darby, PA to parents Raymond and Anna D. Kulp Shane. He graduated from Eddystone High School in 1962 and in 1966, from the Pennsylvania Military College with a BS degree in accounting. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and played college basketball. 

In June of 1966, Raymond married Judith Ruth Cooper and they shared 58 wonderful years together. Shortly after, he was drafted into the US Army. Raymond then completed Officer Candidate School (OCS), in Aberdeen, MD before serving a 12-month tour in Vietnam, from 1968-1969. In May of 1969, he received the Bronze Star Medal. In June he returned home as a 1st Lieutenant and joined the US Army Reserve. 

Ray started his first job in accounting with Arthur Andersen, and there he gained the CPA designation. Prior to his move to Gulf Breeze, FL in 1986 he was employed as the controller and treasurer of a pharmaceutical company in New Jersey and later retired from Bank of America Investments as a financial planner. 

Ray was a member of the Gulf Breeze Optimist Club since 1996, while also helping to organize their annual Christmas Tree Lot Fundraiser for many seasons. He received the Christian D. Larson Award, from the Optimist International Organization. He was also a past member of the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club. 

Ray had many interests including gardening, reading, cooking and traveling. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. Ray loved spending time with his family and supporting his grandchildren in their many activities. Each morning he could be found on his back porch enjoying his cup of joe, from one of his four coffee machines and bringing his beautiful wife breakfast in bed. 

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Anna D. Kulp Shane.

Ray is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Cooper Shane; daughter, Traci Shane; sons, Brian Shane (Christy), Glenn Shane (Megan); grandkids, Madison, Tucker, Maria, and Gabriella Shane, all of Gulf Breeze, FL; sister, Laura Kantor (Gary), Langhorne, PA; nephew, Matthew Kantor (Kelly), Philadelphia, PA; niece, Kristyn DeCarlo (Brian); great niece and nephew, Michaela and Nathan DeCarlo, of Bensalem, PA. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Community Life Church in Gulf Breeze, with Addie Middleton officiating. Visitation for the family on Saturday, will be from 1:30 pm, until service time.  Inurnment will be 1:30 pm, Monday, January 6, 2025 in Barrancas National Cemetery with honors.
