Ray Jowers of Gulf Breeze passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born on October 26, 1943 in Eufaula, Alabama as the only child of his parents Bill & Lucille Jowers.
Ray is survived by his wife Barbara of 31 years and children: Kelly Jowers Bullock of Pensacola, FL; Raymond M. "Skipp" Jowers, Jr. (wife Christina) of Pensacola, FL; Scott A. Stikeleather (wife Jayna) of Navarre, FL; and Donna Marie Winchester (husband Rob) of Marietta, GA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Noah, Bobby, Lexi, Ashlyn, Addi and Maddox.
Ray graduated from Baker High School in Columbus, Georgia in 1962 followed by enlistment in the U.S. Navy where he served as an aircraft mechanic until 1969. Ray was stationed first at Whiting Field in Milton, Florida and then at Ellyson Field in Pensacola, Florida. During his military career Ray was recognized as Plane Captain of the Month and awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Ray was an accomplished mechanic and handyman who could fix anything. His civilian career was in finance. Through his work with General Finance Corporation Ray came to know the mortgage business from the inside out. He then formed Gulf Coast Mortgage Services as its owner and president. Ray and Barbara ran that business equipped with his knowledge and the hands-on skills he possessed to back it up. Ray continued his career in the financial field with TCF Finance, and retired from Citi Financial as Chief Loan Officer in 2007.
Throughout his life and particularly in retirement Ray relished saltwater and freshwater fishing. To see him throw a mullet net was a beautiful sight to see. He also greatly enjoyed the lovely home he and Barbara shared. Being at home and working outdoors in their yard under the beautiful oaks was a favorite pastime for him. Ray loved animals of all kinds and they migrated toward his gentle spirit. Ray was a friend to all, all ages, and in all walks of life. He was quick to help anyone in need. He was sensitive and kind enough to hold others up when they were down, yet strong enough to hold them accountable for their own good as well. Ray was real and genuine and grateful for his blessings, he made a lasting impression on all those who encountered him.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze with visitation at 10:00 AM and the service commencing at 11:00 AM.
