Lt. Col. Peter C. Brown, retired USMC, age 87, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, departed this life on April 2, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family. Born in Upstate NY to Carlton and Doris Brown, his family eventually settled in Fair Haven, NY, where he and his 2 brothers began their life-long love affair enjoying the great outdoors. Fishing, hunting and gardening were his favorite pastimes, which he enjoyed throughout his life.
Voted most likely to succeed in high school, Peter attended Cortland College, where he met his wife Patricia and they both graduated in 1955 with degrees in Physical Education and Health. Determined to join the armed forces, shortly after graduating, he joined the Marine Corps and served 21 years, including 3 tours in Vietnam. In stark contrast to the military, upon retiring from the Marines at age 44, Peter moved his family from Rochester, NY to Gulf Breeze, FL and became, of all things, a stockbroker. He became a regional manager and ruled his office and territory with an iron fist. Despite his strict demeaner, he was greatly respected by his peers and worked in the financial industry for nearly 20 years until he retired at the young age of 62.
After retiring, Peter and his wife traveled the world together. Always making friends along the way, they formed long-lasting relationships lasting decades. Peter was an amazing chef, nature enthusiast, an avid gardener and had a special appreciation of music, all of which he proudly passed on to his children.
Peter was predeceased by his son David and is survived by his wife, Patricia, 3 children, Michael Brown, Mary Kay Daniels (Dennis Daniels), Amy Ouderkirk (Bob Ouderkirk) and 5 grandchildren.
Semper Fidelis.
