Today we celebrate the beautiful life of Captain Patrick Edwin Fulford—a beacon of light in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Pat, a cherished husband, father, brother and friend, transitioned from this world at the age of 70 on May 29, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family.
Pat was born on February 7, 1954, in Wilmington, Delaware. His early years were spent moving state to state following his dad’s job with DuPont before the family settled in Baton Rouge in 1962. After graduating Broadmoor High School, Pat went on to become a proud (this is an understatement) graduate of Louisiana State University and member of Theta Xi fraternity.
Shortly after in 1976, he began a life-long career in medical sales, starting with 17 years with American Hospital Supply/Baxter before eventually founding his own company, Southern Medical Systems, and ultimately retiring in 2023.
In his spare time, Pat found endless enjoyment in the outdoors – hunting, fishing, boating and camping with family and friends.
Along the way, Pat met and married the love of his life, Cynthia Ann Smith, and together they moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida, creating a home that was a sanctuary of hospitality for the last 24 years. Pat was known for hosting friends and family, making warm-hearted memories with his delicious meals, cold beverages, good tunes and lots of laughter.
Pat possessed a rare gift of making everyone feel at home in his presence. As an Eagle Scout, his nature was one of service and compassion, always extending a helping hand and a non-judgmental listening ear. His meticulous care extended beyond his boats and cars to the lives of those around him, ensuring smooth sailing even in life's choppiest waters.
In the hearts he leaves behind, Pat is preceded by his beloved parents, Gwen and Aubrey Fulford and son-in-law, James Bailey. He is survived by his adoring wife, Cynthia Ann Fulford; his daughters, Amy Fulford Schmidt (Patrick), Missy Hooke (Thomas), Sarah Koonce (David), Jillian Bailey; his sons, Cole Liland (David), Corbin Fulford; his brother, David Fulford (Heather); his 15 cherished grandchildren; and two who found in him a second father, Tara & Eddie Brown.
Although Multiple System Atrophy may have taken Pat from us prematurely, it could never dim the radiant optimism that defined his outlook on life. His legacy of boundless love, unwavering generosity and infectious optimism will forever inspire the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Patrice Newberry for the tender care she bestowed upon Pat during his final days.
In honor of Pat's memory, the family kindly requests donations to Mission MSA at https://donate.missionmsa.org/fundraiser/5576485.
As we bid farewell to Captain Pat Fulford, let us carry forth his spirit of warmth, kindness and resilience, ensuring that his legacy of love continues to inspire generations to come.
