Norman Stukey Olson Sr., age 82 of Gulf Breeze, FL , passed away on Friday, December 26, 2008 at his home. Norman was born to Axsel Martin Olson, a farmer and Arvilla May Stukey Olson, a teacher, on May 28, 1926 in Alfred, NY in Allegheny County. Norman was raised on his parent's farm and attended Alfred High School. After serving as an MP in the Army from 1944 to 1946, during the American Medal Campaign, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. In Alfred he met and married Marie Katherine Landis. Norman originally came to Florida on vacation and loved it so much he brought his family back to stay in 1968. Norman worked in maintenance, as a postman and as a park ranger among other positions. Norman retired on medical disability from the National Park Service at Fort Pickens in 1974. Norman was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Olson and his sister Merabah Burdick. He is survived by his ex-wife Marie Katherine Landis Olson of Lakeland, FL; four children, Norman S "Pete" Olson, Jr. of Lakeland, FL, Eric Olson of Orlando, FL, Katherine Olson Neff of Navarre, FL and Karen Olson Martin of Houston, TX as well as their significant others and several grandchildren, Dawn Louise Miller of Alfred, NY and Myrtle Olson of Lakeland, FL. Norman also leaves behind his best friend and caregiver Karen "Karina" Cleveland Morelli. Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, January 9, 2009 at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors.
