Nancy Snooks

Nancy Kathryn (Brown) Snooks, 80, of Gulf Breeze, died Tuesday, February 18th, 2014. She was born to the late Harry and Edna Brown, June 11, 1933, in Anniston, Alabama. A graduate of Anniston High School, Nancy went on to attend Jacksonville State University. She married Rupert (Burt) Snooks in 1958, and they moved to Pensacola to embark on a lifelong adventure. Before moving to Gulf Breeze in 1959, she worked for the U. S. Navy at Mainside. She served on the committee to help incorporate the City of Gulf Breeze, paraded as a Mayoki Indian, was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Gulf Breeze Hospital and a member of the Junior Women's Club. Over many years, with the love of her life, Nancy grew as a wide-eyed world traveler who gathered many shells on many shores. Her love of exploring the world was topped only by experiencing it with the family she loved. The unpredictable escapades of her daughters and grand kids brought her many laughs and stories that she shared like treasure. An avid card player, Nancy was a force to be reckoned with at the blackjack table. Intuition merged with luck and skill, and more often than not she turned a profit. Her bridge club and poker club were engaging, colorful gatherings of fine and funny women who bonded when their children were young and grew old together swapping stories of grandchildren and recipes for gumbo. The kitchen was the heart of her home and family gatherings were warmest in her kitchen. Nancy was a curious cook and as adventurous with a menu as she was in her travels. Sweet, spicy, savory - these describe the cook as easily as her creations. Nancy is survived by her husband Burt, two daughters: Kim Armstrong, of Pensacola and Terrye Takacs of Gulf Breeze. She also is survived by grandchildren Juston Takacs, Chelsea Takacs McGehee and Bianca Takacs of Gulf Breeze and great-grandson Tucker Foley. The family extends gratitude to Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg, Nurse Renee Moses and the many caring people in their office who guided her final journey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the food pantry of Interfaith Ministries or the charity of choice. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. A celebration of her life will immediately follow at Santa Rosa Dunes clubhouse on Pensacola Beach.
