Nahla Lappin

April 28, 2009 — July 1, 2024

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Nahla Burke Lappin, a vibrant 15-year-old who brought light and laughter to all who knew her. Nahla’s short life was well-lived, but to quote one of her favorite artists, Prince, “the beautiful ones you always seem to lose.”

Nahla was a delightful paradox—a free spirit with contagious laughter, a punk rocker turned Barbie, and a homebody with an adventurous soul. Her personality was as vibrant as her ever-changing hairstyles—from a shaved head to green hair to black hair to match her Mama's. Her fashion sense was uniquely hers, never following trends because no one could ever tell her what to do. Whether she was sketching, singing her heart out at karaoke, or giving her signature peace signs, Nahla lived life unapologetically and with immense joy.

A devoted daughter, sister, and friend, Nahla was deeply family-oriented. She grew up on the water with her father Coby, who instilled in her a sense of adventure. You could often hear her enthusiastically shouting, “I love you Mama” during school drop-off, and her bond with her sister Maesa transcended a familial connection. They were not just sisters but true friends, sharing secrets, dreams, and countless moments of laughter and joy. Their relationship was a testament to Nahla's ability to connect deeply and love fiercely.

Nahla’s room was always filled with fresh flowers, adorned with pink Hello Kitty items and crystals, reflecting her eclectic and warm personality. She loved reading and always had a book by her side. She had an affinity for being cozy, always wearing pajamas, and cuddling with snacks in hand. Her hair, often a wild and beautiful mess, was a reflection of her free-spirited nature.

Nahla was a social butterfly, making friends effortlessly and bringing people together with her honesty and directness. Her priorities were clear: family, creating a safe and loving home, and cherishing her friends. Her nickname, Bee, suited her perfectly—a symbol of her buzzing energy and her ability to bring sweetness into the lives of those around her.

Nahla’s adventurous spirit, inherited from her father, was a cornerstone of her identity, and she was always and forever a mama’s girl. She embraced life with a heart full of love. Though her time with us was tragically short, her impact was profound, and her memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy.

Nahla, you will be deeply missed, but your spirit will live on in the laughter, love, and light you brought into our lives.
