MaryAnn Steinmann Ellis, age 93, of Gulf Breeze, was called home February 02, 2020. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 24, 1926, to the late Frederick and Edna Fleming. MaryAnn graduated from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, in 1949 with a B.S. in Library Science. From there she served in the Library Service with the U.S. Air Force, in Okinawa (1949-51), Japan (1952-54), Germany (1954-57), Defense Mapping Agency Aerospace Center, St. Louis, MO (1958-83). She also served as Librarian at the U.S. Pavilion of the New York World’s Fair in 1964. MaryAnn was a proud member of Navarre United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she was a volunteer docent at the St. Louis and Gulf Breeze Zoo’s. MaryAnn also enjoyed square dancing, travel, needlepoint and journalism.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Herman Steinmann and Edna Ethel Fleming Steinmann. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, John Huie Ellis of Gulf Breeze, FL; children, Dixie Zumwalt of Gulf Breeze, FL and Leslie Naucke of Corinth, MS; grandchildren, George Nolte, Erin Thomas, Lillie Zumwalt, Amee Vargas and Michael Nolte; great-granddaughter Isabella Vargas; and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 11:00am until the Funeral Service begins at 12:00pm, on Thursday, February 06, 2020 at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563. A private entombment will follow at the Rose Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
