Mary Grace Mathis Diggs, 95 of Gulf Breeze, FL, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the home of friends. She was born and grew up in Clarke County, Mississippi. She has lived in Northwest Florida since 1950. She worked in the Civil Service as a librarian at Eglin and Hurlburt until her retirement. She continued to provide volunteer service to the Disabled American Veterans Auxillary, other community charities and her church. She enjoyed helping others, gardening and traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben F. Diggs, her mother, Olive Kennedy Mathis, her father, George Gordon Mathis, brothers, Ray, Willis and Cecil Mathis, her sister, Margaret A. Mathis Hornsby and their spouses. She is survived by her sister-in law Ruedell Diggs of Jackson, TN, daughter, Bena S. Diggs, her "adopted children", Marjorie McCleese, Wade McLemore, James Blackwell and her extended family of caregivers, of the greater Pensacola, FL area, as well as her many neices and nephews and their progeny in Missippi and Tennessee. She will also be missed by her faithful friends at Santa Rosa Shores Baptist Church, as well as all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be at 11 AM Tuesday, February 5, 2013, with services at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze, FL, at 12 PM. Commitment will be at Ft. Barrancas National Cemetary on N.A.S. , Pensacola, FL at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
