Marion "Jack" Ard, 88, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully at a local hospital. He was born in Pensacola, FL to Mary Jane and Aaron Ard on July 24, 1924. He grew up in the Myrtle Grove area surrounded by many friends and several cousins. He married his high school sweetheart and then enlisted in the Navy in 1941. He served in World War II, and retired after 20 years of service. He was honored to serve his country and enjoyed telling his war stories to his children and grandchildren. After traveling the world and retiring from the Navy, he decided to settle down in Pensacola to raise his family. He enjoyed wood-working and renovating houses. He and his wife joined Ensley United Methodist Church in 1992. Later on in his life he enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren out to his favorite restaurants. He went through phases such as Fat Boys, Denny's, Happy China, and Hardees. He would go anywhere the waitresses knew him by name and where he received "good service". He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Louise Anthony Ard; son, Richard Wayne Ard; two sisters, Vera Stevens and Eliza Shelton; brother in law, Paul Shelton, a brother, Jesse Ard; sister in law, Shirley Ard, and grandchildren, Richard "Ricky" Ard and John Ard. He is survived by his four children, Johnny (Susie) Ard, Patricia (Carl) Lisenby , Marion Jr. (Cecelia) Ard, and Pamela Ard Sims; brother-in-law, Steve Stevens; grandchildren, Carla (Wayne) Slack, Tammy (Larry) Merritt, Wanda (Chris) Gill, Marion Ard III, Eddie Lisenby, Tony Ard, Angie O'Connor, Jody Coulon, and Diane Stevens ; great grandchildren, Marley Slack, Jessica Merritt, Joshua Gill, Lacy Lisenby, Patrick O'Connor, and Jeremy O'Connor, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 11am and Funeral Service will begin at 12pm Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Ensley United Methodist Church with Rev. Jesse Evans and Gina Bryan officiating. Burial will take place at Myrtle Grove Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at West Florida Hospital; especially Amanda, Brian, Kelly, Jill, and Pam.
