Marillyn Jesmonth

Marillyn Hanemann Jesmonth passed away on January 25, 2016 at the age of 87. Marillyn was born on December 4, 1928 in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of Edgar P. and Olga (Fernandez) Hanemann. She later moved to Birmingham, AL where she was a 1945 graduate of Phillips High School. She attended Little Rock Junior College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Tulane University (Sophie Newcomb Memorial College) in 1950. Marillyn was a Gulf Breeze resident since 1958 and was among the early residents who helped incorporate the city. She taught fourth and fifth grade at Gulf Breeze Elementary for 30 years, setting the bar high for thousands of Gulf Breeze school children. She was a parishioner of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze and was steadfast in her faith. Marillyn had a giving spirit and a kind heart. She was a role model to many whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Walter Jesmonth; her beloved sister, Gretchen Hanemann; brother, Edgar P Hanemann Jr; and sister, Mavis Webre. She is survived by her son, Richard Jesmonth; daughter, Kathy Jesmonth Crawford (Jim) and four loving grandchildren, Emily Crawford Gerhardt (Graham); Sally Jesmonth; Allison Crawford Callaway (Ben); and Jack Jesmonth. She is also survived by her sister, Enid Hanemann Bardes; her brother, Tom Hanemann (Sheila); numerous nieces and nephews, daughter-in-law Terri Urquhart; and friend of the family Debbie Brown. Services will be held on Monday, February 1, 2016 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze, FL. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am and interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
