A celebration of life will be held honoring Margaret Elizabeth Adams Robertson Lyle, age 102, who passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at her home in Navarre, Florida. Her funeral services will be held at the Navarre United Methodist Church on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Morris officiating. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior the service.
Dahlin Grandmother Betty, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, was born in Red Bank, a Chattanooga, Tennessee suburb, on November 13, 1921, to Margaret Lee Watson and Loyal Gardner Adams Sr. She attended first grade in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, grammar school in New Orleans, graduating from Chattanooga City High School. While in school, she participated in chorus, dance, debate, basketball, track in the high jump and softball. After her graduation she soon met, then later married Charles Wallace Robertson Sr. as he graduated from the University of Chattanooga. Together, they were blessed to have four children Charles Wallace Robertson Jr. (Carol), Samuel Adams Robertson (Rosalind), David Glenn Robertson and Cynthia Lee Robertson Awtrey.
Betty was always known for her deep and abiding faith in God, her membership in St. Elmo United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, in First Methodist Church of Blakely, Georgia and Navarre United Methodist Church. She was a member of the choirs, bible studies and prayer chain groups, including the Sunshine Group in Blakely as well serving as a reading teacher of illiterate adults. After moving from Blakely to Navarre, she was one of the early members of the Navarre Women’s Club that served the community in many ways including a sponsored prom dress drive for donations to make formal wear available for all young high school girls. She was a gifted seamstress, knitted baby blankets for her grandchildren and painted porcelain china that she shared with family and friends. She was always known for her warm, welcoming nature with a beautiful table set for every gathering of family and friends. Her culinary skills were well appreciated, her recipe collection fit to be published with her cakes becoming part of a wedding cake business that she and her sister Estelle operated along with a catering business. She loved music and dancing, with exercise being a priority as she rode her adult tricycle until she was 97 years old. Reading was a favorite pastime, and she was a UT Volunteer fan for life, celebrating her Rocky Top whenever she could. She lived life to the fullest including family and friends wherever she could.
Dahlin Grandmother Betty welcomed her 12 grandchildren including Stacey Robertson Stover (David), their children Nick, Jacob, Miles Stover: Jill Michelle Robertson her children Sutton, Savannah, Bennett Murray; Kelli Denise Robertson, her children Will and Luke Switzer; Ashely Paige Robertson Bivens (David) their children Lolly and Fisher; Clifton Charles Robertson (Dona) his children Tyler Robertson (Emily) their four grands, and Courtlyn Robertson; Matthew Adams Robertson (Debra) their sons Braden, Devin, Chase; Samuel Andrew Robertson (Elizabeth) their children Sam, Britton, James, Mary Lydia; Rosalind Robertson Alexander (Ben) their son David Michael; Anne Elise Robertson Doise (Michael) their sons Charlie and Leo, Elisabeth Kathryn-Teresa Robertson; Kaicee Robertson, Taylor Robertson Nugent (John) their son Brody. .
When Wally, the father of her children, passed away, she later married Lt. Col. Joe Lyle Jr, now deceased) and gained three more children including Joseph A. Lyle (Barbara), William P. Lyle (Ruth) and Penelope Lyle Jiuditta (Vince) and two more grandsons.
Betty was the eldest and last survivor of the four Adams siblings including her brothers Loyal “Buddy” Gardner Adams Jr. (Kathy)deceased, their children Janice Adams Butler (Tony) and Kim Trantham, Charles Adams (Nancy the mother of his children) deceased, their children Chuck Adams (Kathy), Bobby Adams(Cathy), David Adams (Sandi), Steve Adams (Melody) and Linda Adams Austin (David); and her sister Edith Estelle Adams Ellis (Frederick the father of her children) deceased, their children Fred Ellis (Ava the mother of his children) Elaine Ellis Siniard (Mark), and Doug Ellis deceased. She also loved knowing her 19 great nieces and nephews.
She was a welcomed member of the Robertson family and was predeceased by the siblings of her husband Wally including William H. Robertson (Mabel Ellen) their children Anne Robertson (deceased) and Bill Robertson (Diane); Paul Robertson (Frances)deceased, their son Alvin Robertson (Linda) and Mary Frances Robertson Marlin (Chick)(deceased) and their son Charlie Marlin (Marie).
Betty was also predeceased by her dear great grandson Jacob Charles Stover and Linda Nicholson Robertson, the mother of Cliff and Matt Robertson.
According to her wishes, Betty passed away at home with her daughter Cynthia and son Glenn at her side. The family is grateful for the years of care that Cynthia gave her mother. Likewise, with the kind assistance of Rev. Morris and Robert Trigg, her funeral services and visitation will be at Navarre United Methodist Church with arrangements entrusted to Rose Lawn Funeral Home, Gulf Breeze, Florida. She will be interred beside Charles Wallace Robertson Sr., the father of her children, in Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga at a later date.
