Margaret Amelia Evans Glasscock was a Christmas baby born December 25, 1919 at her family home in Longview, Alabama to Richard Evans and Jessie McGuire Evans . She passed away peacefully at Gulf Breeze Hospital on March 12, 2013. Despite her age, she was healthy and happy until a few moments before her death. An alumnus of Alabama College for Women, Margaret spent the last 60 years as a Florida resident. Her family moved to Key Biscayne, Florida in the early 1950's. During that time she taught weaving and jewelry making at the Miami Junior Museum. In 1959 they moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida and she continued her love for all things associated with waterfront living. Margaret and her husband Robert James Glasscock were members of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. Margaret decided to re-enter the work force in 1960. Because of her love for the environment she was a natural as the first secretary for the office overseeing water quality in NW Florida. Starting with only three employees under the auspices of the health department, the Florida Department of Pollution Control was created by the late 1960's . Over the years her job became busier and more complex. By the time she retired after 30 years, the department had grown into the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. She was proud of being a part of the ongoing effort to protect the waterways she loved. Upon retirement Margaret became active in her bridge club, church circle and the Gulf Coast Friends. She was a farmer at heart and she and her husband were among the first in the area to embrace organic gardening. She grew flowers and fresh vegetables and her roots were in the soil. She had a finely honed sense of humor. Margaret started each morning with a bible verse and sang a hymn on her last day, as she did every day of her long and lovely life. Margaret is survived by daughters: Suzon G. (George) Wilson, Gulf Breeze; Chere (Edmond) Pinder, Great Guana Cay, Abaco, Bahamas; Grandchild: Britt Anne (Ryan) Peat and great grandchildren Kendall, Connor and Brennan, Gulf Breeze; Grandchild: Kristina (Ron) Unhjem and great grandchildren Bradley and Dylan, Norway; and Grandchild: Forrest Pinder, Great Guana Cay, Abaco, Bahamas.
