MARGARET ETHEL DUNTON BETTS 1907 - 2010 Ethel Betts of Gulf Breeze, just 3 weeks short of being 103, died peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Peggy and Cliff Roltsch on January 9, 2010 She was born in Nassawadox, VA., and is survived by her sister Sudie Brothers of Emporia, VA. After attending William and Mary College in the first class of women accepted there, she graduated from the University of Delaware and taught Home Economics in Lewes, Delaware. The she met and married Ralph N. Betts in 1931. They lived for over 58 years in Clarksville and Ocean View, Delaware. In 1989 the moved to Gulf Breeze and enjoyed living close to their family. Ethel was a member of the Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed participating in the Stitchery Guild, the DAR, and the Colonial Dames XVII Century, Fort San Carlos Chapter. In Delaware she was active in the same organizations and was an Elder in the Frankford Presbyterian Church for many years. After moving to Gulf Breeze, "Nana" became the name used by so many friends of her grandchildren, Jeffrey Allen Roltsch and Lorena Roltsch Cornwell. She loved each and every one of them. Her family and friends, in both Delaware and Virginia have always been a pleasure to her. Preceded in death were her husband of 64 years, Ralph Nelson Betts and her grandson, Nelson Betts Roltsch. Those surviving Nana are her daughter Peggy and her husband, Cliff Roltsch, grandson Jeffrey and his wife, Maureen, and granddaughter, Lorena, David Cornwell. Three great-granddaughters, Sarah Grace and Lilly Ames Cornwell and Olivia Marie Roltsch, are her greatest treasures! We wish to thank all the very special nurses from Covenant Hospice who cared for her so lovingly. Dr. Jerry Blacklaw will conduct a Memorial Service at the Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Jan. 16th at 11 o'clock. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola or to the Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church in her name.
