Louise Norwood Long, age 87, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, died May 20, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Vernon Long, Jr.; parents, Leonard Levert Norwood, Sr. and Fannie Littlepage Marsh Norwood; and brother Leonard Levert (Scot) Norwood, Jr., a World War II veteran. Survivors include sons, Craig Vernon Long and Keith George Long of Gulf Breeze, FL; her twin sister, Frances Norwood Ashcraft of Reform, AL; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Louise, a devoted wife and loving mother, was born June 3, 1928, in Carrollton, Alabama to the late Leonard Levert Norwood, Sr. and to the late Fannie Littlepage Marsh Norwood. She was a 1950 graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, with a Bachelors degree in Business Education. She worked as a schoolteacher in Chipley, FL, at Bay High in Panama City, FL, and in Huntsville, AL. On June 30, 1962, she was united in marriage to George Vernon Long (originally from Tampa, FL) in Huntsville, AL. Louise lived with her husband and sons in Huntsville, AL, Charleston, SC, and for over 30 years in Slidell, LA prior to their move to Gulf Breeze, FL in 2007 to be near family. Louise was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Slidell, LA where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She and her husband were also very actively involved with STARC (the St. Tammany Association for Retarded Citizens) in Slidell. In lieu of flowers, the Long family suggests memorials be made to a charity of one’s choice.
