Louis Dahl Cannon, 90, passed away in his sleep at The Blake of Panama City Beach, Florida, the morning of January 12, 2025. He was born on the 4th of July 1934, in Lake Como, Mississippi, to Lennie and Tom Cannon, both of whom are deceased. He was a proud resident of Bay Springs, Mississippi. He attended Jones County Junior College and then quickly signed on with the Air Force. He was proudly serving his country when he married Margaret Linda McCarty, from the neighboring town of Stringer, on March 3, 1956. They moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, where Louis was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base. Louis supplemented his military pay by barbering for any and all comers. He was also in a band where he played acoustic guitar and sang (like Johnny Cash). He was very musical and could play several instruments, without any music! He was a very handy guy and could fix just about anything he put his hand too. He was a good radio operator and did his year long deployment in Nova Scotia, Canada. Their first baby came along July 15, 1957.
Louis was very social and happy. He had the most warm and wonderful smile. He was a strong Christian man to whom others gravitated too.
After his years in the Air Force, he was honorably discharged and began working for NASA at the space program. They had their second daughter during this time, 1960. Louis and family were very active in their church where Louis was a deacon.
Next move was to Pensacola, FL, where Louis attended UWF, graduating with a BS Engineering degree, while working for Westinghouse full time. He was with Westinghouse until he retired. They had joined East Brent Baptist Church, and found a wonderful home of friends and a place for their girls to grow up in. They loved living so close to the water, and Louis successfully became a “trick skier” with Linda as his driver. As a family, we spent many weekends out on the water and camping.
Louis is survived by his wife, Linda (of 681/2 years), Daughter Sherry Powell (husband Bob), daughter Robin, granddaughter Shonte’ Graves and husband Tom; granddaughter Ashley Ritley and husband Steve; Noelani Leimbacher and husband Jim; grandson Dustin Oakes and grandson Caleb Williamson. 10 great grands and 8 Great Great grandchildren. Louis also leaves behind 1 sister Margaret James, 1 brother Dr William Cannon DDS and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to Rose Lawn Funeral Home for a 1:00 PM Viewing, 2:00 PM service followed by graveside memorial. Join us to reminisce and honor the “Life of Louis”! See you in Heaven, daddy!
