Lois
Lois Beatrice Todd McKay, age 87, of Gulf Breeze, was called home January 12, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born July 28, 1933 in Blountstown, FL to the late Claude Lee and Hyson Dykes Todd. Lois retired from Monsanto Corp. as a Line Supervisor after a distinguished career. She also worked for Oriole Beach Elementary School as a Latch Key Aide. Lois was a proud member and pre-school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze. She was known for her generous spirit and enjoyed providing comfort and fellowship to the residents of The Villas of Gulf Breeze, through bible study and music. Lois appreciated Southern Gospel Music, card games, the beach, travelling, her beloved craft projects and most of all her family and friends. “Our beloved mother was invested in all of our lives, she always had a love in her heart, compassion and a never-ending willingness to help all of her family, we will miss her dearly,” said her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eldora Pelt, Effie Lee White, Lillie Pearl Page and Mattie Villeneuve.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Walter (Sherri) Charles of Dardanelle, AR, Mike (Cathy) Charles of Granbury, TX, Steve (Cathy) Charles of Canandaigua, NY, Sam Manze, Jr. of Saraland, AL, Melanie Manze (Arnie) Van Zyll of Gulf Breeze, FL, Lori Manze Harvell of Gulf Breeze, FL, and James (Christina) McKay of Jacksonville, FL; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Ruby Kelley of Gulf Breeze, FL; and a host of extended family, church family and great friends.
The funeral service will begin at 2:00pm, Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze, 555 Fairpoint Dr, Gulf Breeze, FL 32561. Pastor Jeff Spooneybarger will officiate. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563. Pallbearers will be Walter R. Charles, Sam Manze, Jr., Arnie Van Zyll, Steve Charles, James McKay and Michael Charles.
The family offers special thanks and appreciation to the staff and caregivers at the BeeHive Homes of Gulf Breeze and Regency Hospice, for their impeccable care and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Lois’ memory be made to the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes, 1000 Chemstrand Road, Cantonment, FL 32533.
