Lillian Bloodworth

Lillian Morel Bloodworth died at her home on July 16, 2020 with her family around her.  She was 92 years old.  Known as “Lil” to her friends and “Pal” to her family, she was born December 15, 1927 in New Orleans, LA.  Growing up during the depression and WWII, she saw her brothers off to war and safely home again, then married a military man.  Lil raised 6 children as a Marine Corps wife, maintaining the family home through John’s deployments to China, Korea, and Vietnam, enduring floods and blizzards and six cases of every childhood ailment that came down the pike!  Through it all she never lost her sunny disposition or failed to be a positive partner to her husband of 67 years, a loving, supportive mother, a proud and generous Grandmother, and a doting Great-Grandmother.

In their retirement years, Lil became a world traveler, covering most of the globe and all 50 States, chalking up the last of them, Alaska, at the age of 90!  She defined “Southern Hospitality” at the home she and John built in Northwest Florida and when it came to entertaining her large extended family and friends from near and far, Lil always had room for one more at her table, an extra bed for weary travelers, and a glass a wine for all comers.

Lil lived her Catholic faith in ways large and small, giving of her time to Scouting, youth golf programs, and the Red Cross, and literally giving 23 gallons of her blood to save the lives of others “Because,” she used to say, “I can.”  She never wavered in her devotions through the transitions from Latin to English, Vatican II, 8 Popes and uncountable Parish Priests.  She died in the faith and has every expectation of taking her place in the world to come.

Preceded in death by her husband, John, their oldest son, John Jr. and daughter, Elizabeth, Lil is survived by her son, Charles (Harriet) Bloodworth of Clarksville, TN, daughter Kathy (Larry) Walker, of Ozark, AL, daughter Jane Bloodworth, of Ozark, AL, Son, Robert (Lily) Bloodworth, of Richardson, TX, Daughter-in-Law Maureen Bloodworth, of Pensacola, FL, 15 Grandchildren, 22 Great-Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Sylvester Catholic Church.  She will be inurned with her husband at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Military Support Organization, TEAM RWB (TeamRWB.org) or other similar Military Support Organizations.
