Leroy Melton, Jr

LeRoy Melton Jr., age 77, of Navarre, FL died on Sunday, July 5, 2015 after a fairly short battle with cancer. Roy was born on May 8, 1938 in Miami, FL. He was a graduate of Lakeland High School, Class of '57 and served proudly in the United States Air Force. While in Vietnam, he earned the distinguished Bronze Star and Airmen's medal. A decorated veteran, he received numerous other awards and citations. Committed to community service, Roy regularly donated to the American Red Cross and is one of the top donors in Santa Rosa County with over 40 gallons of blood donated. He was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, VFW and Air Commando. Roy was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He dearly loved his church family at Gulf Breeze. He entertained as "Flippo the Clown" for schools, hospitals, orphan homes and retirement homes all over the world, and was a well-loved Santa. Roy was a consummate story teller and never knew a stranger. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Marie Melton, brother Grady Eugene Melton and infant son, LeRoy Melton, III. Survivors include his devoted wife of 55 years, Sandra Janice Melton; 4 daughters, Kim (John) Stacy of Dallas, GA, Wendy (Jim) Christensen of Brandon, FL, Shawn Smith of Navarre and Mandy (Steve) Kersey of Parrish, FL, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters, Beverly (Butch) Taylor, Kay (Rich) Losson and Lisa Melton, as well as numerous family and friends. A time of visitation will be held at Gulf Breeze church of Christ on Friday, July 10, 2015 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to West Metro Church of Christ scholarship fund 4550 Hiram Sudie Road, Hiram, GA 30141 or Rainbow Omega, 1000 Hope Drive, Eastaboga, AL 36260 or Horizons of Okaloosa County in honor of Lisa Melton, 123 Truxton Avenue, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547.
