Leon Reese, Sr

February 15, 1920 — June 22, 2013

Leon R Reese, Sr. age 93 of Gulf Breeze, Florida, formerly of Birmingham, passed away June 22, 2013 at home. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Hazel, sons Leon, Jr. (Thelma) and Ray (Amy), three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and his brother, Doug. Mr. Reese was born in Cullman, Alabama, February 1920. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Dag and M.D. Reese and a sister, Francis. He served with the 4th Marine Division during WWII in Kodiak, AK, Roi and Namur, Kwajalein Atoll, Saipan, and Marianas Islands. He was a home builder, a general contractor and president of Shades Valley Construction Company, Inc. until age 85. He was one of the founders of the Birmingham Home Builder's Association and is a member of the Home Builder's Hall of Fame. He gave his life to Christ while a teenager and devoted himself to following Christ until his death. Visitation and services will be held on Friday, June 28th at 11:30 at the Pensacola First Baptist Church with military honors and burial to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church Missions Fund, 500 N Palafox Street, Pensacola, FL 32501.
