On February 6, 2012 heaven rejoiced at the arrival of a beautifully-hearted man. We celebrate our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband but cry with sadness that we can no longer be with him here yet know that Jesus met him at the gates with open arms. Rene was born in Manchester, NH, the 13th of 14 children on June 11, 1933 to Dorilla and Roseanna Chauvette. He proudly joined the Air Force in April 1954 and spent 20 years serving his country including twice in Vietnam. He then worked as the toll collector for Santa Rosa Island. His constant smile, wild humor, and outrageous friendliness brought life to everyone he met. He was passionate about Christmas, Oreo cookies, coffee, children, his family and music, especially his player piano. He leaves to mourn and remember him: Claudette, his beloved, beautiful wife of 57 years and five children: Irene Patti (Joseph Patti) of Pace, FL; Diane Williams (H.R. Williams) of Navarre, FL; Rene Chauvette (Donna Chauvette) of Gulf Breeze, FL; Valerie Dunn (Ed Dunn) of Grasonville, MD; and Celeste DeBruzzi (Dan DeBruzzi) of Navarre, FL. Grandchildren are Wes, Taylor, Vanessa, Raymond, Maverick, Jenna, Adam, Chandal, Ava, Syrah, Eric, Zoe, Natalie, Jesse, Zak, Colton, Luke, Tucker, Amanda, Alex, Alisha, and Tony. He also leaves many friends, relatives, two sisters and a brother and a host of nephews and nieces in New Hampshire. Visitation will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 9 at Roselawn Funeral Home, 2942 Gulf Breeze Highway, Gulf Breeze. A military tribute will be held at 2:45 pm - 3:00 pm with a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. One of his final wishes was to be buried in New Hampshire, where he spent his childhood. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Manchester on February 13, 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest with two daughters, Colette and Valerie, who predeceased him. Au revoir, Daddy. "Because you can." In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
