Herb York, age 78, passed away Saturday morning, November 15, 2008, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He was born on November 4, 1930 in Carmi, Illinois. Following a tour of duty in the Air Force, he settled in Fort Walton Beach and worked as an electronics technician at Eglin Air Force Base until his retirement in 1985. Early in his career he was also a partner in Wright Radio and TV Repair Shop, and was an enthusiastic electronics hobbyist throughout his life. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his friends. He will be sorely missed by the regulars at "Herb's Bar." Herb was preceded in death by his parents, John and Retha York of Carmi, Illinois. He is survived by his sister, Amelia Atchley, of Carmi, Illinois; son, Rick York of Fort Walton Beach; granddaughters, Jill Callihan of Pensacola, and Crystal Ryan of Baltimore; and great-grandsons, Bryce Callihan and Quinn Ryan.
