J. Norman White, "Norm", 85 of Gulf Breeze, FL, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Born February 10, 1926, in Mill City, PA, he was the son of the late Rev. John and Bessie (Davey) White. He married his childhood sweetheart, Barbara VanHorn in 1968. He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Lexington in the South Pacific. Following the war, he graduated from Susquehanna University, with a degree in business. After spending most of his life in Pennsylvania working for Aetna Life and Casualty, he was transferred to Gulf Breeze in 1980, and later retired in 1992. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Dietrick Lamade No. 755 of Williamsport, PA and a member of the Elks Club of Pensacola Beach. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, sailing, golfing RV traveling and ocean cruising. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. As a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, the love he gave was always unconditional. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jay White and his brother Donald White. He is survived by his "Love Bug", Barbara; his sister, Grace Whidden of Idaho; his daughters, Wendy Offutt, Kate Wilkes, and Becky Grace (Patrick Grace), all of Gulf Breeze; his grandchildren, Sarah Milligan of Washington, D.C., Becca Brady (Jason) and Conor Grace (Bri) of Gulf Breeze, and Katie England (Jeff) of Hampton, VA; and his great-grandchildren, Hudson Brady and Finian Grace. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, May 14th at 4:30 at The Chapel of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, followed by a gathering of family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
