John Mcelgunn

March 23, 1929 — March 10, 2012

John "Jolly Jack" McElgunn, born in Summit, New Jersey, Jack passed on March 10th, to his loving Savior. He owned a three generation family haberdashery in Summit where he was past president of the Summit Chamber of Commerce; past treasurer of the Lion's Club; past president of PAL; past president of the Berkeley Heights' Booster Club and a proud member of the Summit and Pensacola Beach Elks. Jack proudly served our country as a United States Marine. Jack is predeceased by his parents, his brother, Edward, and his son Edward. Jack was married for 62 years to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy. He leaves behind his beloved wife, his children: John and his wife Linda, Kathy, and Cindy and her husband Delius, his sister, Janet, nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Jack's family was his life and his pride and joy. Upon retiring, Jack settled in to Gulf Breeze, Florida where he lived with his wife, Dorothy, for the past twenty five years. His name, "Jolly Jack", says it all- he was a golfer and an avid fisherman, happy to be on the water, whether he caught something or not and always had a smile, bear hug, or a handshake for everyone. He is gone but will never be forgotten as his jolly spirit will live on in all of us. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity dear to your heart, or plant a flower on his behalf.
