On Thursday June 27, 2013, John Leo Huckestein was called home to be with his heavenly Father. Born January 21, 1936 to the late John Henry and Gertrude Huckestein in Pittsburgh, PA. He leaves to cherish his memories: three brothers, James, Thomas, William as well as several friends and colleagues in the NASA Houston TX and Navarre FL area. He graduated from North Catholic high school in 1954 and earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He was interested in Scouting and attained the rank of Eagle Scout and later served as Scout Master. He enjoyed fishing, tennis, reading, cooking and playing Bridge. Jack's 40 plus year career was spent in the Aeronautical and the Space exploration field where he worked for several notable companies: Boeing, NASA, Oceaneering Space Systems, and United Space Alliance to name a few. During that time he received several awards and certificates recognizing his work excellence and participation in American Space exploration missions. Among the missions that he participated were: Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Space Shuttle and International Space Station. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of The Blake Gulf Breeze, and Covenant Hospice, who, so lovingly took care of him during his stay there. In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions for John may be made to the American Cancer Society.
