John William Finley, Jr, age 85, passed away on Saturday morning, January 4, 2014 at Eglin Air Force Base Hospital. John was born to the late John William and Mary E Willis Finley in Columbus, GA. He retired as a Tech Sgt., in Fort Walton Beach, after twenty years of service in the Air Force. He also owned Finley's Auto Electric in DeFuniak Springs, FL for thirty plus years. John got much joy from serving with the Kairos Prison Ministry through St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Fort Walton Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel M. Finley of Jackson, TN and a beloved son, retired Navy Captain Allan M Finley of St. Augustine, FL. He is survived by sisters; Beatrice Dunn of Griffin, GA and Frances Wilcher of Destin, FL; son John Douglas Finley of Fort Collins, CO; daughters Barbara G (Jack) French of Navarre, FL and Kim E (Kenny) Phillips of Shalimar, FL, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and friends will gather at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 9, 2014. Graveside services will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL at 1:15 PM, with Pastor Kenny Phillips officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in John's memory @ woundedwarriorproject.org or to the charity of your choice.
