It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother at age 81 after a short illness, in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Joan was an only child and leaves her husband Jim and all of Gulf Breeze & Pensacola to mourn her. Joan was born and raised in New York, attending Katharine Gibbs Finishing School and later pursued her career as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines; a career that she loved. Through her work she met the love of her life, James E. Strange, a pilot with PanAmerican Airlines and for the Federal Aviation Administration, following his career to Miami, Hawaii & other exotic parts of the world. During theses years the Stranges' raised four children; two sons and two daughters: Michael, Sally, Alex and Julie. She was very proud of all their achievements. The children are spread all over the country from Colorado, Houston, Washington D.C. and Chicago. Joan was very close to her three grandchildren (Matthew, Brian & Lauren) and they will greatly miss their Grandma. Throughout her life she remained very active. She loved to travel, play bridge and volunteer with various organizations throughout the Gulf Breeze/Pensacola community. She was an excellent cook and everyone loved to gather at her home at Thanksgiving every year. Joan received loving care at Bay Breeze Nursing & Retirement Center in Gulf Breeze. Flowers gratefully declined in lieu of donations to The American Cancer Society. Please come celebrate Joan's life with us at her Memorial Mass at St. Ann's Catholic Parish, 100 Daniel Drive, Gulf Breeze, FL 32561 on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 10:00AM . Arrangements entrusted to Rose Lawn Funeral Home of Gulf Breeze. You may offer condolences, share memories and sign the guestbook at www.roselawn-fh.com
