Joan Schlueter

December 17, 1929 — April 8, 2012

Joan Warthen Schlueter was born on December 17, 1929. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marie Warthen and her first husband. She was born in Rochester, NY. Joan was a graduate of Florida State with a Bachelor and Master degree in social work. She was employed in that field for many years. Joan is survived by their three children, Michael, Randall and Telete and her husband Dr. Donald Schlueter. Joan was an active member of the DAR for over 50 years. She served as an officer and as chairman of several committees including Chapter Achievement, programs, Conservation and President. Joan was also active in the Pensacola Opera and the University of West Florida's Leisure Learning Society. After 14 years in Wisconsin, Joan and Don returned to her beloved Pensacola where she became active once again in the DAR. Joan was always available to help those in need. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Fort Pickens Chapter of the DAR or Pensacola Opera. The Visitation will be held at Rose Lawn Funeral Home on Gulf Breeze Parkway from 5:00pm - 7:00pm on Wednesday, April 11. Mass will be held for Joan at 10:00am, on Thursday, April 12 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze. Burial will follow the celebration of the mass at Bayview Cemetery on Scenic Highway.
