Jerry L. Teston "Big Daddy" 1930 - 2010 Jerry L. Teston, 80, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2010, after a two-year struggle with the affects of a debilitating stroke and three heart attacks. Jerry was born on June 20, 1930, in Atkinson County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lindsey and Louise Brown Teston, and father- and mother-in-law, D. Fletcher C. Robertson and Amy Alice Greek. As a youth, Jerry attended school in Douglas, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida, where his family had moved. In 1948, he graduated from Robert E. Lee Senior High School in Jacksonville. Jerry also served in the Army from 1951 to 1953, in Korea. After his military service, Jerry met and married Nancy Robertson of Jacksonville on October 30, 1953. They started their family and he worked at Southern Bell during day and attended college at night, graduating from Jacksonville University with Business Marketing degree in 1962. For his entire career, Jerry was employed with Southern Bell (also known as BellSouth and AT&T). He started in the mailroom and later became a District Marketing Manager. His job moved the family to various cities, and he worked in Pensacola from 1972 until his retirement in 1985. During his lifetime, Jerry was a charter member of the Gulf Breeze Rotary (former Chapter President and Paul Harris Fellow) and a member of the AT&T Pioneers (former Chapter/North FL District President and Lifetime Member). He was in the Krewe of Lafitte and the Karnival Kavaliers. Jerry also enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at Tiger Point Golf Club, rooting for the Florida Gators, and traveling the world. Jerry is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 57 years, Nancy, and his children Keith Teston (Seletta), Don Teston (Tammy), Cindy Hardy (John) and Scott Teston (Sandy Schupp), all of Gulf Breeze. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Teston, Tiffany Bunt (Kevin), Jason Teston, Tyler Teston (Jill), Matthew Teston, Sandy Teston, Chris Hardy, Scott Hardy, Taylor Hardy, and his honorary grandson, Travis Schupp. Jerry is also survived by relatives in the Jacksonville area and in California. Pallbearers will be Jerry's grandsons. Sincere thanks to Jerry's special caregivers, Veleene Allen, Jennifer Melton-David, and Jasmine Bean. The family also appreciates the support of Jerry's many family and organizational friends who helped us during this difficult time and the care given by Dr. Joseph Howard and the staff at the Howard Clinic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Jerry. The wake will be Tuesday, August 17, from 6pm to 8pm at Rose Lawn in Gulf Breeze.
