Jeanne Krieger passed away Friday, September 12, in the company of family and friends. Jeanne was born in Montclair New Jersey on July 27, 1930, to Eugene and Elsie Meder. She grew up in East Orange, New Jersey. She married Frank Krieger in 1951 and they lived in West Milford New Jersey for many years. Jeanne worked in the banking profession for 33 years. She began as a teller with Orange Savings Bank and retired as a vice president and branch manager at Hudson City Savings. During her career she was also very involved as a volunteer with the North Jersey Training School, a facility for community members with special needs. Jeanne retired in 1993 and moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida shortly thereafter. In Gulf Breeze Jeanne was a devoted and active member of Saint Ann Catholic Church. She dedicated time to the St. Ann Habitat for Humanity projects. She was also on the hospitality committee and participated in a variety of other ministries. St. Ann Church was an important part of Jeanne's life. She made many wonderful friends there. These friends gave her much happiness during her life in Gulf Breeze and unwavering support to her, and her family during Jeanne's illness. For 49 years Jeanne spent much of her summers in Rome, Maine. She loved the people of Maine and will be missed by many good friends in that community. Her time by the lake was a great source of peace and joy. Thanks to Jeanne, the joy found at Great Pond will continue for her family. Her husband Frank passed on before her in 1968. Her brother, Eugene and sister, Rosemary also preceded her. She is survived by her sisters Madeline M. Swanton of Edgewater, Maryland; Dorothy M. Walizer of Deland, Florida; and Frances E. Murphy of Gulf Breeze Florida; her brother Richard M. Meder and his wife, Dot and brother-in-law George Krieger and his wife, Laura. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly. Jeanne found a special friend and "doctor" in Mary Ellen Neal, Nurse Practitioner at Dr. Howard's office. Sincerest thanks to her, and the entire office, for the years of great care. During her illness Jeanne was fortunate to have had numerous fine caregivers. Among the many were oncologist Dr. Thomas Fitzgerald, nurse Jan, of the Ciano Infusion Center and nurses Kathy, Frank and Bill of Gulf Breeze Hospital. Jeanne's sisters, Dorothy and Frances, and niece, Shawn, would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Covenant Hospice. Brita, Dan, Eugenia, Angela, Margaret, Orlando, Donna each provided thorough and compassionate care for Jeanne. Equally important, their caring support of Jeanne's family and friends is to be acknowledged and highly praised. A gathering of family and friends for a time of visitation will begin at 10:30 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church on Friday, September 19, 2014 with a Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Ann Interfaith Ministries, P.O. Box 1057, Gulf Breeze, FL 32562 or Covenant Hospice Indigent Fund, 2001 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501. Jeanne will be laid to rest with her husband in West Milford New Jersey, with a service for family and friends, the date for which has not yet been determined.
