James A. Harris 1933 - 2010 Jim, 76 years old, passed away Sunday with his family at his bedside, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Kansas City, MO and was a long time resident of Gulf Breeze, FL., most recently residing in Daphne, Al. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, James E. Harris and Berniece G. Harris, his brother, Robert Harris and sister, Nona Maurin. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara M. Harris; his oldest son, Jim Harris Jr.,and wife, Judy, and step- grandchildren, Danielle and Michael Tugwell of Destin, FL;his son, Duke Harris and wife, Lynn, and grandchildren, Khari , Krystal and Grant Harris of Gulf Breeze, FL;his daughter, Kathryn Martin and husband, Dale of Destin, FL, and grandchildren, Michelle Martin from Atlanta , Trish Wickman, and her husband Rob,currently residing in Japan; his youngest son, Robert Harris of Pensacola; his sister, Mary Ann Sullivan of Charlotte, NC and his step-son, Robert N. Miller of Orlando. He also leaves behind his two great grandchildren, as well as many dear friends and his beloved dog, Buttons. Jim was the founder of Cap'n Jims Seafood Restaurant, a long time landmark in Pensacola. He was a long time member of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. Jim was Charter President of the Gulf Breeze Optimist Club; Chairman of the Navarre Beach Island Authority for 10 years and appointed by the Governor to the Florida Marine Fisheries Commission and served on the Pensacola Gateway Review Board. He was a past member of the Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club, an avid golfer, past member of the Pensacola Country Club and Tiger Point Country Golf Club and Timbercreek Golf Club. Jim also served twice, in active duty in the U. S. Army. Visitation with family will be at 10:00AM at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church with services following at 11:00AM. Burial at Rose Lawn Cemetery immediately following.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, Covenant Hospice (1040 Stanton Road Suite D Daphne, AL 36526), or The Haven( a no kill shelter) 559 S.
