James Hanley

Capt. James Terrance Hanley passed away on Wednesday, April 11th, 2018.

James, known by many as Jim or Terry, was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Gardiner & Mary Hanley on September 14th, 1945. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Norris Hanley; his father, Gardiner L. Hanley; and his beloved wife of 45 years, Jane Birmingham Hanley.

A 27-year resident of Gulf Breeze, James was the principle owner of Shamrock Sales. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, NY, and then attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated with a degree in Mathematics.
Jim was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force in 1967. He served on Active Duty as an Air Force pilot during three tours in Vietnam, until 1971, earning the Air Medal honors. He then flew for the Air National Guard for the next five years.

He is survived by his four children: James (Beth) Hanley of Bellevue, WA; Melissa (Lance) Peterson of Battle Ground, WA; Jennifer (Joey) Pinto of Jacksonville, FL; and John (Ashley) Hanley of Gulf Breeze, FL. He is also survived by his older brother Don Hanley, Sr. of Satellite Beach, FL, and nine grandchildren; Kyle, Max, Tyler, Brett, Allyson, Madelyn, Abigail, Jack, and Myles.

A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze. A short service will follow at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. The burial will follow at 12:00 PM, Thursday, in the Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.
