Iona Stanton Boykin, The First Lady of Oriole Beach, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012. She was born January 27, 1922, to Marvin and Fannie Stanton in Robertsdale, Alabama. Her roots established on their farm had a lasting effect on Iona shown by her love of gardening. For many years she supplied her friends and neighbors with bounty from her garden and beauty in her yard. Iona loved her home and enjoyed nothing more than a yard or pier or house full of visitors, especially the annual Stanton Family Reunions. When hurricane Ivan destroyed her home, her daunting spirit prevailed and she rebuilt her home and once again opened the Oriole Beach welcome mat! Iona was a charter member of First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze, FL, and a charter member of Santa Rosa Shores Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze,FL. She was also a charter member of the Santa Rosa Women's Club. Iona was legal secretary to the first attorney to open a practice in Gulf Breeze and served in that capacity until her retirement. Iona was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Fannie Stanton, husband, Gayle Boykin and brothers Bartis, Arthur, Johnnie and Floyd Stanton, and sister Chris Tillman. She is survived by her husband, Roy French, children David (Nancy)Eubanks, Phyllis Karlstein, Capt. Mark (Sandi) Eubanks, Beth (Jim) Edens and Eddie (Margie) French, brother, Elvin (Cameron) Stanton, sisters, Margaruite Leffard and Euline Hall, grandchildren Scott Eubanks, Wendy (Dewayne)Smith, Chris Eubanks, Mark (Brittany) Eubanks, Jr, Tori Eubanks Cartee, Trey (Stacey) Eubanks, Devon Eubanks, Justin Eubanks, Wesley Eubanks, Carrissa Edens Clark, and Kelsey Edens, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
